No More Daylight Saving

I really don’t see what affect daylight savings time has.  I think it should start in October and end in April.  This is the time of the year when I would like the extra hour of sunlight in the evening.  Actually it would streamline things just to leave things alone like Indiana and Arizona.

This week will be my last week at the bank.  I really like the work and the people I’m working with but in the temp world, all good things must come to an end.  Thursday I got a call from another agency that saw my resume on Monster. COM.  The last time I got a call like that I landed a job that lasted a year!  Anyway, I’ll be talking to them tomorrow – it’s a good thing that this job is part time – getting off in the early afternoon sure makes it easier to schedule the appointment!

Tuesday morning my husband goes to see a neurosurgeon about his back problem.  He still is in great pain although he does have medication for the pain.  So we’ll see how that goes.

I’m still stitching the Old Salty Santas piece – I have spent the last two weeks stitching a yellow slicker.  I’ve finally moved on to some navy blue uniforms.  This is a big piece – it’s on my largest scroll frame, which is 22 inches long.   I hope to get this done in a couple of weeks – I still have two more projects to get done before Christmas – and November is just around the corner.

Still reading the New Living Translation Bible – I started 2 Kings tonight.  The Crosswalk web site (www.croswalk.com) has a link to a store that sells Bibles.  When you bring up a specific version, this site tells you what the reading levels of the different versions are.  Which explains why I don’t like this version as much as some of the others – it is written at a 6th grade reading level.  I am educated well beyond that. <grin>

Tomorrow is Halloween.  This is not a holiday I celebrate.  The only decorating I’ve done is on my computer – I have Webshots set up to show Halloween pictures in the screen saver and on my desktop.  Ever since we’ve kicked sugar out of the house in 2000, there is no reason for us to bring all that sugar back in.

In any case, I hope you and yours have a Happy Halloween!

Take care, and God Bless,
Florence

Still Working...

The temp job at the bank got extended two weeks. :-)   I guess I’m doing a good job – they’re keeping me. :-)

Had to cut the air conditioner on for a few days this week – with sunny skies and temperatures in the 80’s the brick on the house absorbs a lot of energy and then after sunset re-radiates the heat.  You wouldn’t think that yellow bricks would be so bad but they still absorb heat.  But yesterday a cold front came through and we’re back to the lovely fall weather with fresh air coursing through the house.

My husband has been in agony for the last couple of weeks due to a pinched nerve in his back.  After seeing his doctor and having an MRI done, he now has to go talk to a neurosurgeon.  It’s tough seeing your other half suffering….

I finally finished the snooker birthday card.  The piece was only 3 inches by 4 inches but took a solid two weeks to stitch!  I’m now working on a much bigger piece – it is wide by not too high piece that is on my largest scroll bar. I really need to settled down and stitch!  I still have to finish the geese – that piece is about 2/3 done so that shouldn’t take too long (I hope!).

I finished reading Deuteronomy today.  I’m still reading the New Living Translation.  For some reason, getting through Numbers was really tough.  But I soldiered through it.

I should have more news next week on my husband – your thoughts and prayers are appreciated.

Take care & enjoy,
Florence

Time for a New Web Browser

I have never been a fan of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.  And given all the security problems it has, that has probably been a good thing.  I had been using Firefox as my browser ever since it came out.  I really like the tabs – every morning I load my Daily bookmark folder into tabs and work through them – checking news, weather, eBay and downloading pictures from Webshots.

A week ago the “throbber” in Firefox showed that I had some updates to download.  They were updates to some of the extensions I have.  Extensions are small programs that add features to the browser.   But those updates locked up Firefox.  The only way I could get onto the Internet was in safe mode  - without bookmarks and tabs.  Yikes!!

Time to find a new browser!  I did a Google search for tabbed browsers and found the new Netscape browser.  (The first browser I ever used was Netscape. () I must say, I am impressed with Netscape 8.0.  It has the tabs that I like so much and has the ability to render pages as Firefox or Internet Explorer.  Now I don’t ever have open Internet Explorer!!  Netscape imported all of my bookmarks – even the bookmark toolbar folders so I was able to keep all the stuff I had set up in Firefox.   I’ve been using it about a week and will keep using it!

Finally got to turn the air conditioner off – which is the start of fall as far as I am concerned.  The humidity is gone and the skies are clear and blue!  I love this time of year!

Finished reading the New Testament last week and now am reading Leviticus.  It’s tough reading some of these Old Testament books but I keep plugging along.

Still working – it looks like I’ll be there for another couple of weeks.  (

Take care & enjoy,
Florence

Happy Columbus Day

Happy Columbus Day!

I was surprised to find out that I have Monday off for Columbus Day.  It’s been a long time since I have had this particular holiday off – at least not since I retired from the Navy.  But banks take the all of the federal holidays and since I’m working at bank – I get a three-day weekend!  Of course, as a temp, I don’t get paid for not working, but that’s the breaks.

It finally rained!!!  After a very dry September, Tropical Storm Tammy brushed the South Carolina coast and gave this area a well needed soaking.  The skies have finally cleared though and it looks like we’re going to get a couple of days of nice fall weather.

After happily stitching all the beaded items, I am stuck stitching the green of a snooker table (British version of billiards).  It’s going to be a birthday card for my husband.  It’s such a small piece it really shouldn’t be taking so long to get done. But that’s the way it goes…

Unlike other sports, like golf or baseball, there are not a lot of cross-stitch patterns for billiards.  I have managed to find the few that are out there and I’m stitched them for my husband.

The New Living translation is growing on me.  I finished up Second Corinthians today.  These verses from chapter 4 really resonated with me:

Verses 16 –18

16That is why we never give up.  Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long.  Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! 18So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen.  For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.

Ah, a long weekend – well, with laundry to do and an eBay store to tend to – the weekend should fly by.

I hope you all have a Happy Columbus Day this Wednesday.

Take care,
Florence

My Beading Adventure

My Beading Adventure

This week I finished my 8th stitched beading project.  This last project was a very elegant rose with a fringed beaded border.  It will be made into a magnetic pincushion.  I have really enjoyed working with the beaded kits – they were all small projects so it didn’t take long to get the satisfaction of finishing something.

Now it’s back to just stitching with floss  …

I tend to leave finishing the stitched items until another time.  I’m a much better stitcher than finisher!  With Christmas fast approaching I can’t leave them too long…

I finished reading the Amplified Bible Wednesday.  I have started reading a New Living Translation Bible that is set up more like a novel with all of the verses in a chapter strung together.  It is very easy to read so I think it is a good version to start with.  I don’t think it will be my favorite version but it is still early – I have only read Matthew, Mark, and most of Luke.  Still a lot of Bible left.

September was a very dry month – just a trace of rain.  It looks like October will be a little wetter – showers are forecast for every day this week.  Still running the air conditioner – hopefully for only a few more weeks…

I always become a bit emotional at the end of September – it’s not as bad as it used to be but September 30th is when my Dad passed away.  It’s been nearly 20 years ago so the grief is not very strong – but it still lingers…

Have a great week!
