Happy Columbus Day
Happy Columbus Day!
I was surprised to find out that I have Monday off for Columbus Day. It’s been a long time since I have had this particular holiday off – at least not since I retired from the Navy. But banks take the all of the federal holidays and since I’m working at bank – I get a three-day weekend! Of course, as a temp, I don’t get paid for not working, but that’s the breaks.
It finally rained!!! After a very dry September, Tropical Storm Tammy brushed the South Carolina coast and gave this area a well needed soaking. The skies have finally cleared though and it looks like we’re going to get a couple of days of nice fall weather.
After happily stitching all the beaded items, I am stuck stitching the green of a snooker table (British version of billiards). It’s going to be a birthday card for my husband. It’s such a small piece it really shouldn’t be taking so long to get done. But that’s the way it goes…
Unlike other sports, like golf or baseball, there are not a lot of cross-stitch patterns for billiards. I have managed to find the few that are out there and I’m stitched them for my husband.
The New Living translation is growing on me. I finished up Second Corinthians today. These verses from chapter 4 really resonated with me:
Verses 16 –18
16That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. 17For our present troubles are quite small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us an immeasurably great glory that will last forever! 18So we don’t look at the troubles we can see right now; rather, we look forward to what we have not yet seen. For the troubles we see will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.
Ah, a long weekend – well, with laundry to do and an eBay store to tend to – the weekend should fly by.
I hope you all have a Happy Columbus Day this Wednesday.
Take care,
Florence
