Where Did The Time Go?

The last few months of last year were busy with getting ready for Christmas, which was complicated by actually making some gifts and working a lot of overtime. I mailed the last Christmas gift out the second week of January.

The end of January was the end of the fiscal year – which is always a good time to work in accounting - so I got to work lots more overtime.

The overtime ended the beginning of this month and I thought I would finally begin to enjoy the benefits of getting my work caught up. Then one member of the team moved on to another job in the company and the supervisor decided to shift all the team members. So I have to train someone to take my job, learn my new role and keep up with my work – without working any overtime? Yikes!

So I guess the boss isn’t too worried about backlogs? I certainly won’t be working as much overtime as I did last year.

The last two months we have had a cable modem that was dropping out for 10-12 hours a couple of times a week. We don’t have a phone line anymore (we ditched Windstream (formally Alltel) but having a phone line would have allowed us to stick in that free AOL disk and get online the old fashioned way – dial-up.

But that option is available to us anymore so we suffered the outage. So we replaced the modem (twice) and put in a new inside cable. The cable company put a new cable in our back yard and a couple of weeks ago replaced everything in the connection box in our back yard – it’s on our land but beyond our back fence.

The cable modem is still dropping out pretty much every morning so evidently they haven’t fixed the problem just yet.

This week will be spent getting our taxes ready for our preparer. Most of the work deals with getting my eBay records into order. I’m taking a couple of days off next week (I had some vacation time I had to take) to finish up getting my records into shape – by that time I hope to be doing my search of the files for cost of goods sold.

We also decided to defrost our freezer. It was a used stand up freezer that we got for about $100 last summer. We’ve been working on cleaning out the freezer by eating the meats that were stashed in there. We need to get enough out of the freezer so we can stash the rest in the refrigerator’s freezer long enough to defrost. It has been a long time since I’ve had to defrost anything.

There is a lot of crud floating around the air in these parts and I landed a cold that has kept me coughing pretty much for three days straight. It’s of to the doctor tomorrow morning to get something to dry my sinuses. This company I work for is a little like the military where you had to document your doctor visits and then bring the paper in to your supervisor.

This month has flown by too! Yikes!

Take care & enjoy,

Florence
