A Couple of Interesting Weeks

It’s been a couple of interesting weeks.  Of course, you all have heard that old Chinese curse – “May you have an interesting life”.

I managed to crack the LCD screen on my LG phone.  Don’t know how it happened – it was sitting on the shelf over the computer. I don’t think I ever want to see that again!  A while back my husband was having problems with his phone and he got another straight-up phone off of eBay but he didn’t like it.  I was supposed to sell it on eBay but have never gotten around to it (more on that later).  Good thing.  I’m not that thrilled with the phone – the smaller monochromatic screen and smaller buttons – and even worse – the send and end buttons are exactly opposite of where they were on the LG phone!  But once you had a flip phone with a color screen, it feels like stepping back in time with the Motorola.  At least I didn’t have to buy a phone!

Been busy working posting and selling on eBay.  I had posted nearly 200 books on Half.com last August.  I had a nice rush of sales at first then they tapered off – another rush in January and then only one sale since then.  So I have been busy moving all of those books over to my eBay store.  The fiction books weren’t too bad – the hardcover and paperback books don’t vary enough to change the media mail rate.  The non-fiction books were a different story – they ranged from a small paperback to a big coffee table book and even a few really thick technology books.  It took several weeks and I am so glad it’s done.  I actually posted some cross-stitch stuff last week – it’s about time I took care of the “Stitch” that’s in my store name.

One of the issues that lead to me moving my stuff off of Half.com was the record keeping.  My Selling Manager in eBay gives me an invoice for every sale – Half.com sent a four-page email.  It will really streamline the bookkeeping having everything on eBay.

It’s been a pretty dry summer but we did get some rain (with thunder and lightening) early in the week and yesterday.  The thunder was rumbling all afternoon and evening.  There’s still a good chance of rain today – good thing – we need it!
Well, July is nearly over.  There is quite a lull in temp work this time of year for some reason…

Take care & enjoy,
Florence

Summer Time Musings

The heat and humidity has set in for the next couple of months.  Our temperatures down here are right there with the temperatures in the Midwest but our heat doesn’t seem to hit the news.  Good thing we got our air conditioning system updated – it won’t be turned off until late October.

A severe thunderstorm blew through yesterday afternoon – dropped the temperature but upped the humidity.  The storm knocked a branch out of one of our maple trees and stripped some branch ends off of the pine tree across the street.  Not complaining about the rain though – our spring was dry.

My husband was getting ready to re-install Windows on his computer so he moved all files to his second hard drive to get ready for the re-install.  Only problem was – the re-install didn’t work – yep, another hard drive hit the dust.

I set up a user account for him so he could check his email on my computer.  All I have on his computer is different browser (don’t want to mess those saved passwords up) but I get too many complaints about all of the “eye candy” on my systems -I use Webshots for my screensaver and desktop wallpaper.  I also use Object Dock, which gives my Mac-like docks on my Windows machine.  I have the tabbed dock on the bottom of the screen and another on the right side of the screen with a clock, calendar, and weather docklets.

I’ve tried other screensavers but always come back to Webshots.  It’s just a collection of pictures and it’s very easy to add your own pictures.  I don’t always run the screensaver but I have Webshots change my desktop wallpaper every 15 minutes.  I’ve been collecting Webshot pictures since 1999 so I cycle through the through the pictures depending on the season.  Right it’s lots of flowers and beaches.  That’s right – summery stuff.

After living here in the South for over a decade, you’d think I’d be used to seeing back to school sales in July (schools in this area head back the first week of August).  But up north where I went to school – school never started until after Labor Day.  I guess I’ll never get rid of the Yankee in me!

Take care & enjoy,
